Flydjs... ...is a community of all-girl DJs based in Kelowna BC who offer a friendly & supportive platform for any female DJ, DJ-to-be, vocalist or MC, or live performer willing to share & enjoy their music & art where gender & ego are not issues. The crew was conceptualized by JGirl & Amanda Rude in the summer of 2005 following a series of peculiar events in a small local DJing scene with some 60+ male DJs. They saw a need to group together to share ideas & start new projects. Flydjs was formed & launched in October 2005. Flydjs receives an abundance of praise, support, & media attention.

[Philosophy]
Since the DJing scene is often one filled with competition and rivalry, our philosophy is to share instead of compete. Our lesson & mentoring programs offers the Kelowna ladies the ability to make their DJing dreams come true. To date, some 60+ ladies & gents have participated in Basix, our lesson program showcasing the basics of vinyl DJing. Many of our 'graduates' have taken their experiences a step further & bought gear, built their vinyl collections, & a handful have begun enjoying regular gigs. Some of our ladies have relocated to places like Nelson, Calgary, Victoria, & Vancouver. A few have enjoyed prime spotlight with gigs in Calgary, Edmonton, Seattle, at Shambhala, Apex, Summer Breaks, Hush Nightclub, Gorg-O-Mish after hours, as far west as Japan, & as far east as Birmingham, London, & Ibiza.

JGirl believes in supporting ladies with a passion for DJing who wish to improve their experience, gain knowledge, & perform live regularly. She hosts events in the Okanagan & gives budding DJs (male & female) a chance to rock out. She assists with buying their own quality DJ gear & finding the right places & shops to get their favorite music all in a effort to get started. She hosts a pro-looking website (WWW.FLYDJS.COM) where the girls each have an individual profile page, a bio, upcoming & past notable gigs listing, & the abilities to host & promote their mixes.

Amanda stresses the importance of being unique to set herself her apart from other DJs. She also stresses the importance of striving ahead & making every performance her best performance. She believes in networking with like-minded people in similar music-circles & gaining & sharing any fulfilling opportunities that come along.

Both Jenn & Amanda are very driven, accomplished, & believe in keeping the vibe alive & kicking wherever possible.

[Contributions]
We have received valuable contributions from friends like Tyler who offers our Basix 'graduates' scratch DJ lessons with one-on-one coaching using fresh battle records, cartridges, & a scratch mixer. Brian's held digi-DJing lessons using top-of-the-line digital turntables. Devon has made a slew of great flyers. Manousos keeps us looking sharp with website design, flyers, posters, & nifty neato things. Danielle & Silas of Concept2Creation (WWW.CONCEPT2CREATION.COM) opened the doors to Studio in 2007-2008 allowing us a place to frolic & play during Basix & Open Dex. Our lovable street promo team spreads the good word about our shows & shenanigans; Jolene, Julie, Marcus, Jill, Crystal, Luke, Ryan, & Trav.

[In Action]
Flydjs' ladies play, support, promote, & encourage 'good' music, not clownery, costume changes, skimpy wears, or even what's necessarily 'popular.' Our ladies are creative, confident, beautiful, & express their own individual passions through their artistic, vocal, & musical avenues. We work hard, we play hard, & we always bang out on the decks.

[Showtime]
JGirl hosts regular events in the Okanagan Valley upwards of 90+ shows of all shapes and sizes over the past three plus years. Jenn & her husband Manousos are Area49 Stage Managers at Solaris (WWW.SOLARISMUSICFESTIVAL.COM), "Main Room" promoters at The Peachland Castle, and Stage 2 managers at Beaverdell's "EB" festivals. She hosted "The Grill" at The Grateful Fed in Kelowna with partner-in-crime Luke Out. The Grill is a weekly DJ event with invited guests from all over BC playing nearly every genre of music without prejudice in a relaxed & cozy atmosphere.

Flydjs participates in Music Festivals, Community Events, we perform at Fashion Shows, Art Galleries, Product Launches, Wineries, Snowboard Competitions, All-Night Dance Events, Restaurants, Lounges & more! We have worked closely with a number of solid, reputable, & driven promoters like Brat Productions, Higher Ground, The Duotone Art Collective, Elevate & Evolution Thursdays, Arthur & Shawn's Evolution GLBT, The Grateful Fed, Golden Delicious, Boundary Elements, Headjacked, Molly Fi's G.O.D., Ree Fresh, LiquidBeat, Stereoshift, The ElectroFunk Collective, Deleterious, Soul Champion, Forsaken Sounds, Fineline Productions, Jenn M & Crew, Rottun Productions, H2Okanagan, Netmusique to name a few.
