JGirl Bio November 2008

JGirl is Jenn, an accomplished brat, a hyperactive socialite, & a former Montréaler who gave up her city lifestyle for the serene lakes, fresh air, & beautiful mountains of the Okanagan Valley. She made Kelowna her home in Dec-04 with her husband Manousos.

She was raised on steady diet of late night clubbing, rave-chasing, & quality House rhythms. She has been DJing & hosting events for about a decade. Back East, she noodled in lounges, worked with the Mutek Festival team, wrote for street & web 'zines, hosted wild loft parties, & performed in nightclubs & after-hours clubs a little all over Quebec and Ontario. She also hosted a weekly event called "Dizzy" featuring Underground House / Detroit Techno with guests from a little all over.

Since her move westward, she has DJed at a multitude of events all over BC and Alberta like Solaris Music festival, Higher Ground club nights, Habitat and Level Nightclub in Kelowna, Brat Production events in Kamloops, the Shambhala Music Festival, Apex Project & Gorg-O-Mish Afterhours in Vancouver. She was featured as a special guest at Molly.fi's "Girl on Decks" in Calgary.

JGirl & her husband Manousos perform all over "The Valley" in lounges, restaurants, boutiques, fashion shows, wineries, & art galleries where they are recognized for creating a classy musical ambiance of perfect mingling & dancing.

Jenn's project Flydjs (WWW.FLYDJS.COM) began in October 2005 & is an all-girl collective based in Kelowna, BC receiving an abundance of praise for encouraging emerging female DJs & vocalists with a pressure-free learning & practice environment. Since the DJing scene is often one filled with competition & rivalry, Jenn's philosophy is to share instead of compete. Best of Friends! Her lessons & mentoring offers the local ladies the ability to take their curiosity to the next level. Flydjs hosts monthly events at The Grateful Fed & has showcased invited guests from all over Canada left to right. Flydjs is making waves all over the West coast and their motto is plain & simple: "Dance with us!"

Jenn's first DJing curiousity was the bleeps & clicks of minimal techno, which provided her with the foundation of long, solid mixing while blending unusual rhythms, funky & bizarre beat patterns, & ear-catching melodies. Today, she loves House music packed with a punch! A JGirl set consists of bass-driven Jackin' beats and Jazz-filled rhythms with an irresitable groove. She is influenced by the sass & class of Montreal with a West Coast kick, fun and funky is all!
